Abstract: The Marge Howard Jones Papers, 1979-90, consists primarily of research notes relating to Howard Jones’s authorship of Seekers of the Spring. Also included are letters related to Howard Jones’s involvement with the Carlsbad City Historic Preservation Commission.

BIOGRAPHICAL/HISTORY
NOTE:
Born April 14, 1926, to Henry and Sophie Mayers, Marge Howard Jones grew up in Los Angeles, Ca. She attended UCSB, where she majored in social services. In 1952, Marge married Arthur Tony Howard Jones. The couple had three daughters, Carolyn Louise, Barbara Diane and Patricia Jane.
Marge moved to Carlsbad California in 1959, and became involved in a variety of volunteer activities such as the Parent Teachers Association, Friends of the Library, Carlsbad Historical Society, Carlsbad Historic Preservation Commissioner, Arboretum, and to her philanthropic activities. As a noted writer, she authored many historical pieces, a non fiction book Seekers of the Springs, a variety of videos, and garden book reviews, as well as staff writer for the Carlsbad Journal and Coast News.
SCOPE AND CONTENT
NOTE:
The Marge Howard Jones Papers, 1979-83, consists primarily of historic research related to her publication Seekers of the Springs. Personal notes, promotional brochures, newspaper clippings, and some correspondence relating to the book are included in this collection.
The collection consists of two series: Professional Correspondence (Series I) and Historic Research Papers (Series II). Professional Correspondence is further divided into two subseries: Outgoing Correspondence (Subseries A) and Incoming Correspondence (Subseries B). The Historic Research Papers contain Research Notes (Subseries A), Resource Lists (Subseries B), Newspaper and Publicity (Subseries C) and Old Timers Reunion Research (Sub Series D). Within subseries, items are arranged chronologically.
Series I: Professional Correspondence, 1982-1990, contains letters to various individual property owners from Howard Jones regarding historic preservation and incoming contains letters of praise regarding the book Seekers of the Springs. The bulk of the collection consists of research and publicity related to the book Seekers of the Springs and is contained in Series II (1980-82).
